St Paul’s

St. Paul’s Catholic School has been an 11-18 Comprehensive since 1977, following the re-organisation of Catholic education in Leicestershire. The catchment area is truly comprehensive covering southeastLeicesterand the surrounding county area and serves the Catholic population of nine parishes.

Since 1985 the school has been unified on one site in a pleasant residential area with its own playing fields and tree lined drive. The school has developed from the Evington Hall Convent School buildings and now includes a chapel, lecture/drama hall, sports hall, library, music rooms, design/technology area, laboratories, computer suites and classrooms. Each faculty is housed in its own suite of rooms that include a planning room and resources area.

St. Paul’s is a group 5, six-form entry school, with 1080 pupils on roll.  There are currently 180 pupils in the sixth form, mainly ‘A’ level students, but numbers are expected to increase significantly in the next few years. The school is organised horizontally with each year head supported by a team of form tutors. The pupils are placed in mixed ability tutor groups in Year Seven and are taught in those groups in their first year for all subjects except Mathematics. Years Eight to Eleven are taught in a variety of groupings according to the needs of each department but remain in their mixed ability tutor groups.

The school aims for high standards in all areas. We endeavour to produce a rounded Christian pupil who will be a credit to faith, family and school.

Parental support is an important consideration for the school. This comes not only through a lively P.T.A. but also in day-to-day matters of uniform, homework, discipline and a wide variety of pastoral concerns. Staff, parents and governors are committed to the fullest possible development of each pupil so that their greatest potential can be achieved.

The school is able to offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. These include various sports teams and clubs, junior and senior choirs, orchestra, drama groups, theatre trips, clubs and societies.

The governors of St. Paul’s are looking to appoint well qualified and forward looking teachers who are committed to supporting the Catholic ethos of the school, which is fostered not only through the Religious Education curriculum but in the whole ‘family’ approach to education.
